I have lived in the Philly area for nearly 10 years now, and my husband and I are so grateful for the supportive community we have cultivated here. A perfect Philly day would involve going for a run on the Schuylkill river while fawning over every dog along the way, brunch at The Gold Standard in West Philly, FaceTiming with my family, and biking to a picnic dinner with friends (and stopping for ice cream on the way home!!).

Next year, I will be heading to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to start my epilepsy fellowship. My second year of fellowship will focus more specifically on functional seizures and other functional neurological disorders. While at Penn, I have loved working with Philly’s Latinx immigrant community at Puentes de Salud.

Although I had a great time in the Midwest during medical school, I’m loving being back on the East coast for residency. I went to college in the Philly suburbs (go Haverford!) and am having a great time getting reacquainted with the city. When I’m not at the hospital, I enjoy reading, hiking, and trying out lots of different Philly brunch spots.  My academic interests include cognitive and movement disorders. My research thus far has involved using neuroimaging methods to examine the interplay between traditional Alzheimer’s pathology and vascular disease in the pathogenesis of cognitive decline. I am excited to expand my research to include additional experience with the modalities of biomarkers and genetics, as well as study movement-based diseases. Ultimately, I hope to pursue a career in academic medicine.

After growing up in California and making stops in the Midwest for school, I finally ventured to the East Coast for residency. Philadelphia has given me the opportunity to explore new restaurants, coffee shops, and hiking trails. I also spend my free time running along the Schuylkill River and playing in a recreational volleyball league.

My personal interests include modern dance and Taiko (Japanese performance drumming) which I pursued semi-professionally in New York City for several years before starting medical school. I have continued these activities in Philadelphia and have built a small Taiko and dance ensemble with my husband who is also a performer.

For a many years I’ve looked for ways to combine my background in neurology and dance. My capstone project examines the effectiveness of a dance program for people with multiple sclerosis. My hope is to build a therapeutic dance program for people with a broad range of neurological illnesses.

I am an avid yogi and try to practice 2-3 times a week.  I also enjoy riding my bike and going for a run.  I’m also an enthusiastic foodie.  If I’m not being physically active, I’m probably trying a new restaurant.

I am interested in neurocritical care and paraneoplastic/autoimmune diseases in the critical care setting.  I am currently working on a project with Eric Lancaster investigating the molecular mechanisms of autoantibodies to cell adhesion molecules found in diseases such as Morvan’s syndrome, CIPD, and AIDP.

Pre-mommy days, my favorite past time was sitting by the water with a glass of good red wine and an engrossing book on paper. Currently my time outside of work is filled chasing a super active, spirited, fun-loving 2 1/2 year old who loves to run and figuring out novel ways of saying “no, don’t do that, that’s not safe!”

I am interested in pediatric stroke and plan on pursuing a career in academia combining clinical care with basic science research. I am specifically interested in the inherent plasticity of the developing brain and identifying specific molecular/cellular pathways that promote recovery following ischemic injury.
